I'm a visual person and I wanted a great, lightweight, native whiteboard for Mac that I can keep on my smaller monitor at all times. There was nothing that fit my needs so I built my own and turned it into a product.
Read an interactive article on how I approach design of interaction & experience in this app, in an age when anyone can build whatever they want.

App features a comprehensive 10-step onboarding that teaches users about its tools and how to use them. Completing each step plays a rewarding chime.

Scrolling anywhere triggers the multi-board menu overlay. It’s fidgety and smooth.

Attention to detail is not just buzz words to me. I always find little things to improve upon, like this example of card pick up and movement animation.
Reviews are important but users don’t care for them. I spent a lot of time to make sure they’re only shown when it won’t bother a user. They need to use the app for a while and then it can only be shown when their board becomes empty – meaning they completed all their tasks for now.
I wanted marketing website to feel as well crafted as the app, so it features an interactive demo of the app right on the website along with some polished animations triggered on hover.

In the age when you can create anything an important skill is to know when to say no. These are a couple of prototypes that were tested and not released.
What if your tasks were solved as soon as they’re created?
Currently when you’re creating a card there’s a preview. I thought about making this preview animate to the next cell instead of snapping instantly for a smoother experience. In practice this looks slower and makes an impression of the app lagging.

Forma is live and available in Mac App Store.
